Nimiq Community Update

This blog post provides a quick summary of the latest news and developments across Nimiq from the past weeks.

This month is also a special one for the Nimiq ecosystem: it is Nimiq’s birthday!

That makes this a fitting moment not only to look back at how far the project has come, but also to look at everything that is now taking shape. A lot has been moving across Nimiq.

Some of that progress has happened behind the scenes: security hardening, infrastructure improvements, product refinement, and compliance work. Some of it has already become visible: a new Bitpanda listing, the election of the Community Council, new staking pools, the first community testing around Mini-Apps, the collaboration with the University of Birmingham, and upcoming announcements of new features like Watchtower Staking and USDT support for Nimiq Pay.

Taken together, these developments point to something bigger. Nimiq is entering a phase where important groundwork is turning into visible execution, with more opportunities for the community to follow along, contribute, and help shape what comes next.

A stronger community foundation

One of the most important milestones of recent weeks has been the election of the Nimiq Community Council.

This is a meaningful step toward deeper community participation and a stronger structure for collaboration across the ecosystem. It reflects an ongoing shift toward building Nimiq not only for the community, but with the community.

The council has also released its proposal guidelines for funding requests, making it easier for builders, contributors, and organizers to bring forward ideas and apply for support. That creates a clearer path for community-led initiatives and lowers the barrier for people who want to actively contribute to the ecosystem.

At the same time, the first Mini-App tests for Nimiq Pay are already happening with community members. This is an exciting early sign of the kind of more open, participatory ecosystem Nimiq is working toward.

If you would like to get involved in Mini-App testing, join the community and send a message to an admin.

Strengthening the foundation

Security has always been a priority, and recent months have seen a significant amount of work dedicated to it.

Across the protocol, wallet, and infrastructure layers, teams have been focused on bug fixing, issue review, stability improvements, and follow-up work on vulnerabilities and edge cases. That includes continued hardening of the core codebase, wallet-related maintenance, and broader coordination around making Nimiq’s systems more resilient.

This kind of work is not always the most visible from the outside, but it matters enormously. Especially as the threat landscape evolves with advances in AI and automated exploit tooling. Every product improvement and ecosystem expansion depends on having a strong technical foundation beneath it.

Product development is becoming more tangible

Alongside security work, several important product initiatives have moved closer to the surface.

Work continues on improving Bitcoin Lightning swaps, while USDT support for Nimiq Pay is being finalized. USDT support is a big deal for everyday usability. Stablecoins are the number one payment use case in the market right now, and having USDT alongside NIM inside the same wallet experience puts Nimiq where the real transaction volume is

The Watchtower for the Wallet is also moving closer to announcement, and new analytics are being added to improve insight and decision-making around product usage. At the same time, work on the next generation of the Nimiq app has moved from early alignment into active execution. Design, product thinking, and strategic direction are increasingly coming together around a more ambitious and cohesive future experience.

What makes this especially exciting is that these efforts are not isolated. They are reinforcing one another. The result is not just a series of individual upgrades, but a clearer product direction taking shape across the ecosystem.

Real-world traction and ecosystem growth

Recent weeks have also brought progress on the commercial and ecosystem side.

The Bitpanda listing marked an important public milestone, giving NIM broader visibility across 20+ European markets and making access easier for more people.

At the same time, Goldesel (eng. "Gold Donkey") has entered a new phase of traction testing. After launch, the focus has shifted toward iteration, analytics, and broader audience rollout, including plans for an English version of the site. That matters because it reflects a wider pattern across Nimiq right now: ideas are increasingly being tested in the real world instead of remaining in preparation mode.

Work around Coinify is also progressing, with remaining legal and terms-related steps moving forward. On the regulatory front, the completed MiCA white paper is now heading toward submission, marking another important milestone for the project’s long-term readiness and positioning.

These are the kinds of steps that often receive less attention than a product launch, but they are essential for sustainable growth.

Communications, design, and infrastructure working together

A lot of what is happening across Nimiq right now depends on close coordination between communications, design, and technical infrastructure.

Communications efforts have been focused on preparing upcoming storytelling and announcements, including the Mini-App campaign as well as public communication around Watchtower and USDT support. At the same time, design work has been centered on both post-launch improvements for Goldesel and the next version of the Nimiq Mobile app, which is becoming one of the major focus areas for the months ahead.

On the infrastructure side, work has included support for the production Polygon node for Nimiq Pay, broader infrastructure changes, migration work around the new website and the  developer center, and planning around AI-based improvements. All of this supports the same broader goal: making the ecosystem more dependable as more user-facing features and integrations come online.

Strategy is turning into execution

One of the clearest themes across the last few weeks is that general strategic ideas are becoming more concrete.

The new Nimiq app is moving ahead together with the support of Overnice, while Mini-App experimentation is already producing early prototypes. One example is a playable concept in which apps can run while users play and earn at the same time, an early but meaningful illustration of where these ideas could lead.

There is also supporting work underway around clearer project differentiation and market understanding, including “Nimiq in a Nutshell” documentation and research into Nimiq OASIS opportunities in Costa Rica and Central/South America.

That combination of product exploration, ecosystem experimentation, and clearer positioning makes the overall direction feel more tangible than it did just a short time ago.

What this moment is really about

Looking at all of this together, the broader picture becomes clearer.

The past few weeks have not been defined by one single announcement. They have been defined by momentum building across multiple fronts at once: stronger security, more product utility, visible ecosystem milestones, deeper community participation, and clearer progress toward what comes next.

Nimiq is maturing in ways that matter. Not only by shipping new things, but by creating the technical, strategic, and community foundations needed to support long-term growth. And with the Mini App Framework opening to builders this month, the next wave of that progress will come from the community itself.

And importantly, that progress is increasingly something people can participate in directly.

Join what’s next

There are already several ways to get involved in this next phase of Nimiq:

  • Join the community and message an admin if you want to participate in Mini-App testing
  • Explore the Community Council proposal guidelines if you have an idea, initiative, or contribution you want to bring forward
  • Help spread the word around major milestones like the Bitpanda listing and upcoming Nimiq Pay updates
  • Stay active in the community as more testing phases, announcements, and participation opportunities roll out

Nimiq is entering a phase where more of its progress is becoming visible.

A stronger foundation. A clearer product direction. A more open ecosystem. More ways to contribute.

That is the real story of the last few weeks.

And it is one we are building together.

Thanks for being part of this journey.

Pura Vida,

Team Nimiq
